Liner Notes {top}

I wanted this album to represent my experience in Los Angeles where I was brought by the music and more especially by Joe Diorio. My wishes have been fulfilled a million times more than I could have imagined.

Almost five years have passed near the powerful and creative force that Joe Diorio is. He taught me so much that I hope I will live long enough to explore and achieve his visions, concepts and spirit but also to spread it to as many people as possible. As I saturated myself with his teaching, he constantly helped me to see my way more clearly. Our relationship grew from student to friend to protege to family. I love, admire, respect and am impressed by him more and more each day. That is why I have the great pleasure to present you my first album on which Joe Diorio, this genius, my master, mentor and friend made me the joy and honor to join me on five songs, on which the intimacy of our relationship shines through the music. Joe is the best and will remain so, love you Joe.

My good story does not come alone…
Sid Jacobs, friend of Joe of 35 years whose virtuosity is just a second nature of his many books, recordings and his work on Bill Evans, opened his arms and heart to me, making me feel like part of the family and inspiring me by kicking my butt (guitaristically speaking) whenever I am in the need of it. This guy is really a great and unique player… he is my brother.

I met John Stowell in the South of France during a guitar festival. Later we took the habit of getting together each time he was passing by Los Angeles. John’s playing is sweet, soft and strong at the same time and his harmonic concepts make his approach on the guitar a must know.

To insure the poetic dimension of the guitar duet, we recorded everything live, no rehearsal, no editing, no over-dubbing… just pure improvisation in the tradition of genuine evolutive Jazz. I hope that you will enjoy this little intrusion in our guitar’s world as we enjoyed creating it and living in it…

Thanks to everybody who made this album possible, especially Joe, Sid, John, my wife Emma, my baby girl to be born and all those who have helped me along the way. Special thanks to “Les Bourses Lavoisiers”. Thanks to USC Studio Guitar… and the crazy City of the Angels.

“Eric is one of the most promising young guitarists to come along. He has a very bright future in Jazz.” ~ Joe Diorio
